Sue was born on June 13, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan and passed away peacefully in Portland, Oregon on April 17, 2013. She attended Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, MI. Following high school Sue attended and graduated from Delta College with a degree in business. Sue moved to Portland, Oregon in 1970 where she started and raised her family. Sue had a special appreciation for life. She was a very sensitive, caring and compassionate soul. Growing up she enjoyed fishing with her dad, a hobby she would continue throughout her life. She was very studious and always got good grades. Sue’s artistic talents became apparent when she was very young, and continued into adulthood. Early on Sue enjoyed drawing and would eventually take up oil painting. She enjoyed painting beautiful landscapes, and anything to do with nature. Her favorite time of year was spring when the rhododendrons would bloom and she would visit the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in Portland, usually on Mother’s Day with her two sons. Her favorite place to visit was the serenity of the Oregon Coast. She also had a deep appreciation for butterflies and the beauty they signified. Sue was a devout Catholic and was involved in her local church. You could always count on hearing Neil Diamond playing in the background if you were to visit her home. Sue was a very proud mother and grandmother. The company of family and friends were always very important to her. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sally, May 23, 1957, and her mother Helen Portner, June 15, 2010.
