Ross Alan Butzin - Class Of 1965

Ross Alan Butzin

Ross Alan Butzin, 77, of Saginaw Twp., our friendly, easy-going, and beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Ross was born in Saginaw on May 17, 1947, the son of the late Gerald and Madge (Kessel) Butzin.

Ross was know as a compassionate and fun-loving individual whose spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School. After a school-age paper route he liked to reminisce about, Ross eventually embarked on a career in communications with Michigan Bell/AT&T. His passion for technology and service kept him engaged for many years as a technician at the phone company, where he enjoyed connecting with others as one of the friendly and familiar faces in the switching offices in Saginaw. He later transitioned to Sprint and concluded his retirement days driving for Holt Transport. Ross's dedication to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his family.

On August 2, 1969 in Detroit, Ross married the love of his life, Paula Jean Markos, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter and love. Faith was a cornerstone of Ross' life. He was a dedicated member of Four Points United Methodist Church in Hemlock, where he served on various boards and uplifted the congregation with his joyful singing. His generosity extended beyond his church, as he made significant contributions to his community, including a love for animals reflected in his support of local shelters.

Ross had a zest for life that was evident in all he did. He relished watching and attending sporting events—go Tigers and Lions!—and took immense pride in coaching little league teams, cheering passionately for his children and grandchildren on the fields. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling in league competitions and cherished peaceful moments fishing in Michigan’s inland lakes. A true music aficionado, Ross could identify nearly any tune or artist from the 1950's through the 1990's, creating an atmosphere of shared joy wherever he went.

Ross leaves to carry his legacy to his beloved wife, Paula, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years; children, Jennifer Hahn, Gerald "Jerry," and Jonathon and their spouses; grandchildren, Cassidy, Laura, Ryan, Leia, Caitlin, Carter, and Abigail, some with their own loving families and Ross' great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his cherished brother, Matt, who passed early in life..

Ross' family will be present to receive visitors on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 10:00 AM until Ross' 11:00 AM Life Celebration at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1550 Midland Rd., between State & Gratiot.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to Four Points United Methodist Church, 406 W. Saginaw St., Hemlock, MI 48626 Saginaw County Animal Control SCACC Resource Center, 5615 Bay Road, Saginaw, MI 48604.
