Janice Buyssens Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janice Buyssens, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend, on January 29, 2025, at the age of 78 years young. Janice lived a life full of love, laughter, and service to others, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Janice was born on January 20, 1947, to Amien and Florence Carter (née Wrona) in Saginaw, Michigan and is survived by her younger siblings Susan, Lori, and Amien. She was the loving wife of her late husband, Gary Buyssens, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage and memories. Together, they raised four sons: Ryan and Molly, Aaron and Susan, Evan and Kerri, and Spencer. Janice was also a proud grandmother to her seven grandchildren: Gracious, Amien, Max, Phoebe, Magnolia, Harper, and Carter, all of whom brought her immense joy. She always put her family first but her nurturing spirit extended to her community where she was known for her generosity and kindness.
Before she had her children, Janice was proud to work for the Carter Shops clothing stores and she spent her many years thereafter as a devoted homemaker. She also had a passion for sewing and needlepoint, creating countless treasures for her loved ones. Throughout her life, she enjoyed skiing, gardening, and travel.
She celebrated 70 memorable summers surrounded by family and friends at the family cottage on the shore of Lake Huron in Tawas, Michigan. In addition to her summertime in Michigan, Janice enjoyed her winters in North Carolina, where she found peace in the rhythms of each season and enjoyed her time with the neighbors.
Janice's legacy is one of love, selflessness, and dedication. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her warm heart, and her ability to bring people together. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched, and she will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and friends.
A celebration of Janice's life will be held at Tawas Bay Beach Resort, 300 E. Bay St, East Tawas, MI 48730 at 1PM on Saturday, February 15th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Janice's memory to First Health Hospice, St. Jude’s, or American Cancer Society.
