Nancy Jane Walter, 77, of Houghton Lake passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Brook of Houghton Lake with her loving family by her side.
Nancy was born April 8, 1947, in Saginaw, MI to Jim and Hilda (Martin) Durham. She grew up in the Saginaw area where she graduated from Arthur Hill High School and later attended Delta College. Nancy married Thomas Holister Walter on July 27, 1970, in Saginaw. She started her working career at N.E. Issacson Land Developer, followed by Saginaw Steering Gear and Chandlers Art Gallery, then moved from Saginaw to the Houghton Lake area in the mid ’80s where she sold real estate for 38 years with ERA and then Coldwell Banker.
Nancy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Houghton-Higgins Elks, and Houghton Lake Moose. She was an avid golfer and a Michigan State Spartan fan, she bled green. Nancy enjoyed an occasional casino trip, was an animal lover and was a devoted wife to her husband Tom.
Surviving Nancy are her loving husband Tom, her sister Margie J. Durham who is a resident of Houghton Lake and Port St. Lucie, FL, sister-in-law Lynnea (David) McCargar of Midland, and brother-in-law Ned (Barb) Walter of Saginaw. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services for Nancy will be conducted Saturday, November 23rd at 11 am at St John’s Lutheran Church, 2888 W Houghton Lake Dr., Houghton Lake with Rev. Paul Kruse officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of Nancy are asked to be directed to St. John Lutheran Church. Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel is serving the family. I had know Nancy since 7th grade at North, when we entered AHHS we started to date, it was always on again off again, I was really sadded to learn of her death. Prayers with Tom, and Margie and family, They can take away the physical being, but they can't take away the memories, Rest in Peace Nancy

Nancy was best friends with my cousin Betty. The three of us would walk to Fuerbringer elementary school. She was quiet, very smart and was friend to all. During the nineties I was looking for a house on Houghton Lake and she was my agent. My condolences to Tom and her family.
