Carolyn Engle (Such)

Carolyn Such Obituary

Such, Carolyn Engle
Haslett
Went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the age of 75 after an eight-year battle with dementia. Born August 15, 1947, to Woody and Maggie (Wharton) Engle in Saginaw, Michigan, Carolyn retired from the state of Michigan where she worked as an Executive Secretary in the Department of Commerce.

In her youth, she enjoyed synchronized swimming and competitive water skiing. Later in life was a skilled Contract Bridge player and an avid knitter who taught knitting classes. Carolyn loved to read and especially enjoyed the Agatha Christie mysteries.

Carolyn was loved by many and will be missed dearly by all who remember her. Born in Saginaw, her mother, Marguerite Engle taught chemistry and physics at Arthur Hill H.S. and her father Lynwood was the Advertising Manager of the Saginaw News. She spent her summers at Crystal Lake with over five generations of family and many life-long friends. Carolyn loved children and was the consummate "Nana" and will be remembered for doting over her five grandchildren. She will be especially missed by her husband of 37 years, Andrew Such and her special friend and care giver Nicole Frank.

Preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Marguerite "Punky" Upham.
Surviving are her children, Mark (Sara) Surprenant, Jennett Surprenant, Angela (Tim) Ryan, Michael (Cassie) Such; grandchildren, Cooper Ryan, Abigail Ryan, Daphne Such, Sohee Such and David Surprenant, brother, Frederick (Cheryl) Engle; brother-in-law, Roger Upham, Amy Upham and Brian Upham as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 12:00 Noon at St. Katherine's Episcopal Church, 4650 Meridian Rd., Williamston, MI 48895. Family will receive friends for visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. A reception will be held following the ceremony in the Parish Hall. Cheryl Vibert (Tucker)

My heart is broken,  Each year since 1995 I have gotten together with Carolyn along with Patsy Middlebrook, Sue Culver, Betty Boissonneault, Barb Slade, Carolyn Grant, Julie Oeming(RIP), Barb Lee(RIP) Sally Walz & others. I tried to post a picture of lunch with the gang in 2015 but it would not post here. (If anyone can instruct me, let me know how.) In the mean time, if anyone is on FACEBOOK I have posted a picture on my page at Cheryl Vibert Tucker-Williams.  It's worth a look since at our "elevated age" I think we look pretty dang good! Patsy, Betty and I enjoyed our last lunch with her just last summer on beautiful Lake Lansing where she lived.

I will miss you and your beautiful smile my dear, sweet friend, Carolyn.
