Thomas John Packer - Class Of 1965

PACKER, THOMAS JOHN Traverse City Age 66, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 after a struggle with cancer. Tom was born in Saginaw, MI on March 24, 1947 to the late Athol and Vera (Patton) Packer. He was the youngest of four children. Tom graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1965 and spent three years in the United States Army where he proudly served in Germany and Vietnam. Tom had many friends and was well liked by everyone. His daughters meant the world to him. Tom played basketball in high school and was an avid fisherman and a fan of all sports. He loved the game of golf and was proud to have scored a hole-in-one on two different occasions. Tom also loved riding his Harley Davidson. Tom spent all of his summers boating, swimming, water skiing, and enjoying time with his family and friends on Torch Lake. This is something that he was happy to share with his daughters throughout their lives. Tom is survived by his two beloved daughters, Samantha Packer of Kotzebue, AK and Maggie Packer of Traverse City. Also surviving are his three siblings, Dr. Athol (Dee) Packer of Gainesville, FL, Jean (David) Hinkin of Gainesville, FL, and Dr. James (Sue) Packer of Bay City; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. Honoring Tom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a later date at the VFW Hall in Traverse City, MI.
